William “Bill” BEAVERS

ABOUT William

I am nominating William “Bill” BEAVERS… Bill and I first met back in the late 1980’s through a mutual Coast Guard friend. Throughout the years, we have developed a brotherly friendship. I also consider him a mentor. Bill has a combined 48 years of distinguished public service between the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and law enforcement officer/agent. Of those 48 years, Bill served 20 years in the USCG and 28 years in law enforcement.

Bill served in the U. S. Coast Guard (USCG) from 1976 – 1996, and he retired as a Boatswain Mate 1st class. During his USCG career, Bill was involved in numerous USCG Search and Rescue (SAR) missions. Some of these SAR cases were high profile missions such as the Space Shuttle “Challenger” disaster, rescuing numerous ice fisherman off ice floes on Lake Erie, responding to a small airplane crash off the South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay), and pulling people from the water after their boat sank. In addition, Bill was involved in some maritime law enforcement cases that included drug and alien interdiction. One such case was near Mayport, Florida, whereby his USCG vessel intercepted a fleeing vessel acting in a suspicious manner. After intercepting the vessel, Bill’s team discovered 334 bales of marijuana worth $3 million dollars, as well as seven illegal aliens trying to enter the United States.

After Bill’s USCG service, he elected to become a police officer with the city of Baltimore Police Department in Maryland. Bill served from 1996 – 2007. Some of his accomplishments include, in the year 2000, receiving the Commissioners Special Commendation award for reducing shootings and homicides. Additionally, Bill prevented a mass shooting at Southern High School by finding a gym bag with several weapons and ammunition hidden two blocks away from the school.

Following his retirement from the Baltimore PD, he decided to be deputized in the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s department, in Annapolis, Maryland. He served from 2007 – 2014 as a deputy in his local community.

Upon retirement from the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s department, he was hired by the State of Maryland as a Casino Compliance Representative or “Gaming Agent” for Maryland lottery commission. Bill is currently serving within the organization, and his plans are to retire at the end of 2024.

In closing, not only did Bill serve his country honorably, but his local communities as well, and continues to do so!! Please consider my nomination and thank you for your time.
